Green Tea and Weight Loss – It Does Work!

Many thanks for coming back to my green tea and weight loss website!

Why don’t we get right to it. Is there a connection between green tea and weight loss? I supplement with green tea, but I am definitely not a green tea enthusiast. I simply dislike the flavor of the tea itself! I’ll give you my trick for making it taste better…I add a little chicken bouillon! Works like a charm, but before I get too far off track…

Now… let me get back to telling you more about green tea and weight loss. We already determined that it will enhance your weight loss efforts by about 7 pounds a year if you are drinking at least 4 cups a day. Like I said, 7 pounds without making any other changes in your diet and exercise is a win if you ask me.

Remember, little changes = big differences over time. Green tea and weight loss is a change that anyone can make. This is how it helps…

EGCG and caffeine within green tea, effect your central nervous system and even lead to fats being released into your bloodstream for your entire body to utilize as energy. Using fats for energy is known as “thermogenesis”. This process gives you more energy, assists in eliminating excess water, and even helps you to melt away excess body fat. More evidence that green tea and weight loss are related.

Even though caffeine on it’s own can certainly stimulate one’s metabolism in this way, it is important for you to be aware that experts agree that all of the components of green tea have been considerably more effective at this process than simply caffeine on it’s own.

The catechin polyphenols in green tea activate the usage of fatty acids by the liver and muscle tissue. It consequently decreases the rate that carbs are utilized as well as allowing for a good deal more stamina.

You make one simple change and the green tea does the work. Sweet huh? Are you convinced that green tea and weight loss are not just a coincidence?

If you are at all like me, you are extremely cynical regarding all the advertising hoopla and unsubstantiated promises in regards to green tea and weight loss. Weight loss supplement companies all over the place market teas (especially green tea) like a “weight loss miracle” which will help you to very easily get rid of extra weight and excess pounds.

No Hype Here. This Works!

Even though generally there is almost no long-term research about green tea and weight loss, the research that has been completed has been very encouraging. There IS a connection between green tea and weight loss.

One of my personal favorite green tea scientific studies… The study, which started in Japan in 1994, followed 40,530 adults for as much as 11 years. This study determined that women who drank 5 or even more cups of green tea each day had a 23% reduced risk of dying…from any cause! That study may not be related to green tea and weight loss, but it should definitely be your motivation to begin drinking green tea!

That’s why I supplement with it. I am 100% convinced in the healing properties of tea. It just didn’t do it for me when it came to weight loss. Not by itself…

I suppose I should tell you my story since I said that I would.

I’m not any different than many of you. I struggled with my weight for most of my adult life. After I had children I even blamed it on baby weight. That’s pretty hard to do when you’ve got teenagers standing next to you!

My whole family is “large”. Nice word for FAT huh? I guess I thought that it was my destiny. I didn’t really see anything changing for me either. Heck, I work full time and take care of my family too. How was I going to fit in any time for me?

I pretty much felt crappy about myself all the time. I hated having to be in public for anything, even my kids functions! I hated having to see the “perky” moms. You know the ones I’m talking about. They still fit into their teenage daughters clothes. Barf! It always felt like people were staring at me. I hated me every single minute of every single day.

I didn’t even like going out of the house anymore, not even for dinner with my friends! It always felt like everyone watched every single thing I put in my mouth. So much for a social life. I wanted to scream!

I know you get the picture. Because if you feel even half as bad as I did for all those years it’s something you never stop thinking about. I always fantasized about being thin. I just never thought it would happen. I’m too lazy. Hey, I’m just being honest. I would much rather eat whatever the heck I want and not have to do a thing, but that was not my reality.

I stumbled over a video one night that changed my life. I was surfing the web and somehow found this thing. I never believed it would really work. I didn’t think it was going to be any different than any of the other work out crap I had bought in the past and never used.

Well, looking back I can’t even tell you why I didn’t just click off that goofy video. Why I sat there listening. The two on that video were pretty long winded, that much I do remember. The part that is surprising for me to this day is that I actually bought it! I can’t tell you how thankful I am now…

That night changed my life.

Green Tea Weight Loss – Only One of the Benefits!

Green tea has been considered a wonder drink for over 4000 years in China, but do you know why?  Would you believe that green tea is said to have medicinal benefits far greater than weight loss.  Cancer, diabetes, stroke, and dementia prevention are just the beginning.  I could add Rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease and skin care to the list.  We haven’t even begun to discuss whether or not there is a connection between green tea and weight loss!

The question is…is it hype or does a little green tea bag really have the ability to change your life?  Even possibly your longevity?

There have been many scientific and medical studies to determine the extent of  the true benefits of drinking green tea.  Everyone agrees that green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful and potent anti-oxidant that is believed to help in maintaining good health.  Today’s research on green tea continues to reinforce ancient Chinese beliefs.  There are definite  health benefits of regularly drinking green tea.

So what about green tea and weight loss?  How can drinking green tea increase my weight loss efforts?

Lets examine just that…

  • Green tea is said to significantly boost your metabolism
  • Green tea inhibits fat absorption while helping to control glucose regulation
  • Green tea suppresses appetite

Green tea is credited with the ability to increase your metabolic rate by 4% over a 24 hour period  in a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.  It is believed that the catechin polyphenols found in green tea aid in thermogenesis, or the rate in which you burn calories.  Those same catechins in green tea help to inhibit the movement of glucose into your fat cells making green tea a known glucose regulator.  Anything that helps to slow rises in blood sugar after eating will prevent high spikes of insulin.  Those spikes in insulin promote fat storage.  As for green tea decreasing your appetite?  That is accredited to the blood sugar regulating effects of green tea.

The next question would have to be how much green tea should I drink to have the benefit of green tea weight loss?  Experts seem to agree that in order to enjoy the benefits of green tea and weight loss you need to consume 4-5 cups of green tea daily.  Doing so will help you to burn an extra 70-80 calories per day.  That translates to approximately 7 lbs in a year without changing anything else about your diet.

Like I said, I’m all about little changes that can make big differences over time.

Well, I think I’ve rambled on long enough about green tea and weight loss, along with the benefits of drinking green tea.  That being said; I think I am going to go make myself a cup!
